Summer is over and its back to work. Some people have shared their holiday experiences in this magazine.
We have had a visit from commissioners, we felt very depressed when they left. Along with otherpeople, who live independently, we have beendeveloping a training course for PersonalAssistants.
Shaun and Andy have lived in their own homes for nearly 10 years. They bothworked with the Norah Fry Institute at BristolUniversity to develop a book about Personal Assistants. They have experienced the ‘ups anddowns’ of being an employer.
After 10 years they now say they have someone lined up to do the training. This is very disappointing because we believe that we have the life experiences needed to run a course.
We are also very concerned about the people who have had their services cut. Certainly many people who were moderate do not have the lifeexperiences to help them cope without support.
We suggested to the commissioners that the small sum of money available should be spent wisely on professionals, such as occupational therapists, who are trained to support and advise people.
Why oh why won’t they listen to people with learning difficulties!
