Disability Advocacy in York – Care, Cuts and Campaigning.

Posted by YorkPeople

On Monday 24th June 2024, 10-3pm, at Folk Hall, New Earswick, York we held an event about Disability Advocacy in York.

At the meeting we talked about whether things getting better or worse for disabled people and people with learning difficulties? How the cuts are affecting us? And whether we can fix social care?

We wanted to look at how ‘self advocacy’ and ‘independent living’ can help. Why ‘disabled people and their families’ are really the experts. And, what other disabled people are doing about it all.

Thirty one people came to the event. We heard from a range of different people. Some in person, some by video recording. Below are the clips of the speakers from the event.

We are in the process of writing up our notes and will be in touch with these soon. Our plan is to make some summary points and share these with those that came along and City of York Council, NHS and others with an interest in disability.

Thanks again for being part of it.
